Arts and Cultural Programmer – closing 4 Nov

Salary: NJC points 15-19
Hours of Work: 36 hours per week

The Linen Hall Library was formed in 1788 and is one of the best established arts and cultural institutions in Belfast.

The Arts and Cultural Programmer will be a team player, with the ability to work on their own initiative. The successful candidate will be methodical in their approach, work well under time pressures and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

Job Purpose

  • To manage the development and delivery of the Library’s Exhibition and events programme based on Library’s collections.
  • To curate exhibitions and events based on the Library’s collections.
  • To forward plan taking into account significant anniversaries and key dates.

Specific Duties

  • To liaise widely both inside and outside the Library in creating the forward programme based on the Library’s collections.
  • To manage the programme budget and to ensure that it meets its targets in all relevant areas.
  • To research and plan events before programming to assess content and suitability
  • To provide relevant staff with information on exhibitions and events
  • To contact and liaise with individuals and organisations who will be or are involved in exhibitions and/or events and prepare letters of agreement for same, as necessary
  • To provide information for and to assist with reports to funders
  • To pursue opportunities for additional sponsorship and grant assistance
  • To collect, analyse and share audience data/feedback statistics, including box office reports
  • To liaise on long term development of programming
  • Contribute to Annual Report as required
  • To update website as required
  • Awareness of safeguarding issues
  • May be called upon to assist with other duties as reasonably may be required from time to time commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post. This role will involve working outside normal office hours from time to time

Person Specification

Essential

  • To be qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • To have 2 years experience in working in a programming role in an arts, cultural or heritage environment
  • To have experience of putting together exhibitions
  • To have excellent communication and accuracy in written communication
  • To work well under pressure and possess excellent planning and organisational skills to meet project deadlines
  • Ability to work with restricted resources
  • To have the ability and aptitude to work well within a small team environment

Desirable

  • A demonstrable understanding of Northern Ireland’s arts and cultural environment
  • Relevant qualification in arts and cultural management
