Philip Crawford is Head of Creative Learning at the Lyric Theatre. Here, he tells of how Drama Studio has impacted those young people who are passionate about contributing to the arts sector.
“With over 60 applications to the Lyric Drama Studio, competition for places this year was even greater than usual! The 14 successful applicants began work last Saturday with a double helping of acting technique from Kieran Lagan.
Kieran, who gained a Masters in Actor Training from the Central School of Speech and Drama, teaches the bulk of the course, which is supplemented by taster workshops from theatre practitioners from Ireland, the UK and abroad.
This year’s course will also include classes on TV & Film acting, Alexander Technique and Finance to better equip young professionals for a changing profession.
We rarely leave any applicants unsupported, so another new facet of the Lyric’s Actor Training Programme is a series of ten, 3 hour workshops on Friday evenings, led by Kieran Lagan.
10 former members of Drama Studio will be starting BA or MA courses at Drama Schools in the UK this month, including Birkbeck, Mountview, Arts Ed, LAMDA and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
That means a record 17 of our alumni will be studying at Drama Schools during the next academic year!”
