North West Transport Hub announces open call for performing arts programme!

Translink is inviting local performing arts groups to use the community and civic space in the new North West Transport Hub. Located at the former Waterside Train Station in Derry~Londonderry, the Hub offers an open space where communities and organisations can share their stories, a venue for classes and events, or present new ideas, in a building that will be part of the fabric of Derry~Londonderry.

The designated community space provides an atmospheric and unique venue for groups to host a performance or to simply reach out to surprise and delight waiting passengers.  The space can be used to event be used to pre promote shows taking place elsewhere in the City. Situated within the Hub beside the entrance to the train platform, the community space provides interested groups with an area to engage with passengers and wider members of the public completely free-of-charge.

Following a spectacular Halloween programme which hosted live music, dance and storytelling activities, Translink is delighted to offer the Hub to interested parties all year round for a diverse range of performances. Belfast Lanyon Place has recently hosted a range of novel performances by the Arts an local schools and now a similar facility is being brought to the North West.

The new facility was planned and delivered by Translink, with funding received from the EU’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).  Additional funding has been provided by the Department for Infrastructure and the Department for Transport, Tourism and Sport in the Republic of Ireland, as well as support from Derry City and Strabane District Council.
