The Memory of Water by Shelagh Stephenson 6th-30th March at South Bank Play House

The Memory of Water is set on the north-east coast of Yorkshire in the depths of a snowy winter. The play brings three sisters back to their childhood home on the eve of their mothers funeral.

The past rests heavily on the martyr-like Teresa, the work-obsessed Mary and wild card Catherine- three sisters whose recollections of the past are constantly at odds, and conflicts from their childhood are far from resolved.

The Memory of Water delivers the kind of comedy that makes you laugh until you cry as well as moments that make you stop in your tracks and question the nature of memory; what and how we remember, and, crucially; what becomes of us when our memories begin to fade?
